Pre-Construction Soil Treatment

IS 6313 is the Indian Standard that governs anti-termite treatment during construction. Here is what it actually means for your new build, in plain language.

What IS 6313 covers

IS 6313 is the Bureau of Indian Standards code for anti-termite treatment of buildings, split into parts covering pre-construction treatment, treatment for existing buildings, and treatment for wood preservation. For new builds, the relevant part specifies how and when soil treatment should be applied during construction stages.

When treatment happens during construction

Treatment is applied at several stages: the bottom of the foundation trench before the footing is laid, backfill soil around the foundation, the area under the ground-floor slab, and around the base of pipes and conduits that pass through the soil — since these are common entry points for termites.

Why this stage matters more than later fixes

Once the slab and walls are built, most of the treated zone becomes inaccessible without drilling. Getting it right during construction is far cheaper and more thorough than retrofitting a finished building later, which is why builders following IS 6313 properly save owners money over the life of the building.

What to ask your builder or contractor

If you are building a new home, ask specifically whether IS 6313 pre-construction treatment is included, at which stages it will be applied, and whether you will get a written treatment certificate — this becomes useful documentation if you ever need warranty support later. Doon Earth Solution provides IS 6313-compliant treatment with a written certificate and warranty for new construction across Dehradun.
